Living Museum
History will come alive at River Oaks Elementary school. Students in grade five have been conducting research in the school library, about notable African American people and their contributions to society. As a culminating activity, the students will bring these individuals to life as they dress up and portray these people. Please join them for the first annual African American History Living Museum. The museum will be held on Tuesday February 28 and Wednesday February 29. If you have questions or you are interested in volunteering, please contact: Ms. Lloyd –River Oaks Library Media Specialist at lloydse@pwcs.edu or 703-441-0050
African American Read In
On Monday February 27, 2012 River Oaks Elementary will participate in the 23rd Annual African American Read In chain, sponsored by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English. The purpose of this literary event is to highlight and celebrate the contributions of African American authors, and to make it a traditional part of African American History Month activities. We are currently in search of readers for our event. The job of the reader would be to read aloud one book or chapter of a book, written by an African American author, to a class during the Read-In. The book or selection will be provided for you. If you have questions or you are interested in volunteering, please contact: Ms. Lloyd–River Oaks Library Media Specialist at lloydse@pwcs.edu or 703-441-0050
